Ski Touring

NORDIC SKIING – one of the best winter sports for active people in Saskatoon!

Every Sunday throughout the winter, weather permitting, the Saskatoon Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) members meet to enjoy skiing at Eb's Trails.  Eb's Trails offer an extraordinary cross country ski experience with 52 kilometers of groomed ski trails winding through rolling forested terrain. The trail system is varied, allowing skiers of all ages and abilities to have a wonderful experience.

The trails are located about an hour north of Saskatoon, just north of Duck Lake on Highway 11 heading to Prince Albert.  Watch for the blue skier signs for the south and the north parking lots.  Our SNSC volunteers maintain the trails, huts and outdoor biffies. .

*During the pandemic, we have been meeting in the north parking lot at 11am each Sunday morning to connect with possible ski companions. There is no defintie group or route.  Members are encouraged to make their own travel arrangements. We have not been using the warmup huts due to the spread of virus but there is wood and an outdoor firepit at the south hut.

We recommend that you always ski with a buddy since some trails are very remote.  There are maps posted at each junction and individual maps for your pocket are available in the huts. Skiers gather at the noth parking lot again to be ready to head back to the city around 3:00PM. Bring your lunch and plenty of water. Please bring your own hand sanitizer for when using the biffies. A cell phone is a good idea for safety. There is good cell coverage throughout the trail system.

Members are welcome to bring guests.  All skiers are encouraged to join SNSC.

Members may also organize ski tours to Eb's Trails on others days of the week; daily or weekend tours to other locations; or shared trips to loppets in the province. The mechanism for organizing and communicating these ski tours is through Google.IO.  To join, click on the wee blue envelop icon in the bottom right below.

The Saskatoon Nordic Ski Club (SNSC) offers scenic day hikes on Sundays every spring and fall. Each hike is about 10 to 14km or approximately 4 to 5 hours hike through Saskatchewan wilderness regions, with participants hiking as a group across rolling terrain. There is always a rest stop for lunch along the trail, and for spring hikes the group sometimes goes for a hot meal in a nearby town. Most fall hikes are followed with hearty fall suppers hosted by a nearby Saskatchewan community.

Members are welcome to bring guests. The guest is required to sign a waiver. All are encouraged to join SNSC.

The schedule and details of Club hikes will be posted in season in the club's events calendar (see below).

Hikers meet at a designated place to car-pool, typically departing Saskatoon for the hiking trails at 0945 am. The treks are in wilderness areas, and hikers are required to be self-sufficient by bringing a lunch, plenty of drinking water, and extra gear including a hat, jacket, sweater, rain gear, TP and a small first aid kit.

For more information please click on dates on the Events page and call or email the tour leader listed in the calendar posting.

Additional detailed information on each hike is emailed to the members of the SNSC IO Touring Group .  This is where you may also find information about cancellations or changes of venue.  Club members must join our Groups.IO email group in order to get updated and current information about the hikes.  Join by clicking the Groups.IO button at right below or here.
