Fall Hiking Update

Here is some updated information on the upcoming fall hikes.

September 25 – “Miner’s Creek” (Fall Supper in Macdowall)
Leader:  Heather Bernhard  242-1928
Departure: 10:00 a.m. north of Lawson Height’s mall Tim Horton’s

Miners Creek:  The hike is approximately 13 kms. long and is in the Nisbet Forest north/west of MacDowall and proceeds along the banks of Miners Creek.  The hike winds through the forest, sometimes using a forest road or a deserted pathway ending at 'the beach'.  Sights to be seen are the beautiful tamaracks, the beaver hut, dams and if we're lucky, the resident beaver.

October 2nd. Rock of Ages Hike
Leader: Cliff Speer 653-5693 or

Departure:  10 am at the Saskatoon field house parking lot
No, we won’t be attending the Broadway musical on this hike, but you will rock when you’re finished! Actually, the name refers to a geographical feature encountered en route. The country is rugged: lots of ups & downs – hill climbing & descending; some established trails, some not so established, but no bush-whacking per se. The scenery is spectacular with numerous overlooks and panoramic views of the surrounding sloughs, lakes and grain fields. The major vegetation is a mixture of aspen, balsam poplar & birch bluffs interspersed with open grassland and private wooded pastureland. A quarter section of the area contains a wildlife refuge.
The hiking route is located in the southern range of the Minichinas Hills west of the village of Cudworth. The area is accessed via a grid road off Hwy 41. This will require the meeting point for departure at the Saskatoon Field House parking lot – not the Idylwyld service road location. Further details on the schedule and routines for all Nordic fall hikes can be found on the club website at:
Last year we attended the fall supper at a very small country church on the Bergheim Rd just off hwy 41 on our way back from the Minichinas Hills. I had made arrangements to secure tickets in advance to avoid the long line-up at the church. This involved pre-registering and if I’m able to make the same arrangements, we will follow the same procedure.
